Flood modelling was completed to define flood behaviour for a range of storm events\r\nfrom 1 year Average Recurrence Interval (ARI) to Probable Maximum Flood (PMF).\r\nThe modelling shows that significant flows are conveyed in the piped drainage network and overland through\r\nroads and properties. Generally the main overland flowpath starts from several branches at Alfred Street to\r\nBeverley Job Park. Flows in the open channel at Victor Road and Redman Road combine with overland\r\nflows from Mooramba Road, Fisher Road, and Pittwater Road at the intersection of Redman Road and\r\nPittwater Road. Overland flows are then conveyed along several roads and properties to Dee Why Lagoon\r\nas well as in the open channels between Pacific Parade / Oaks Avenue and downstream of Dee Why\r\nParade. In a 1% AEP event, the results show that ponding of runoff occurs at several locations with\r\nrestricted outlet capacity.\r\n\r\nHigh pedestrian areas in Dee Why CBD also experience overland flow inundation, particularly along Redman\r\nRoad, Pittwater Road, Oaks Avenue and Howard Avenue. In a 1% AEP event floodway and high provisional\r\nhazard flow conditions along the open channels, on roads, and some properties including in the Dee Why\r\nCBD.\r\n\r\nA series of climate change scenarios were also modelled to evaluate potential impacts from elevated sea\r\nlevels and increased rainfall intensity. Results showed that the modelled increases to Lagoon level have an\r\nimpact to flood inundation of low-lying land near the Lagoon. Most properties within the Dee Why South\r\ncatchment do not show a significant change in inundation extent for the modelled scenarios. Modelled\r\nincreases in rainfall intensity showed a rise in peak water levels across the catchment, particularly in trapped\r\nlow points such as on Sturdee Parade and Alfred Street.\r\n\r\nCouncil applies land use planning and development controls to manage development within flood prone\r\nareas. The flood result and mapping provided in the document will assist Council with future land use\r\nplanning, development controls and floodplain risk management.\r\n\r\nThe next stage of the floodplain risk management process following the adoption of the Flood Study is the\r\nFloodplain Risk Management Study and Plan. This next stage will investigate various floodplain risk\r\nmanagement measures and prioritise these measures for implementation.", "num_resources": 1, "num_tags": 4, "organization": {"id": "bc8b9274-7fc7-4576-8211-9fd11d7f42e5", "name": "northern-beaches-council", "title": "Northern Beaches Council", "type": "organization", "description": "The Northern Beaches Council is a recent LGA on Sydney's northern beaches formed from the merger of Manly, Pittwater and Warringah councils. \r\n\r\nhttp://www.northernbeaches.nsw.gov.au/\r\n\r\nFlood Studies, Plans and Maps available:\r\nhttp://www.pittwater.nsw.gov.au/property/natural_hazards/flooding/where_does_it_flood/flood_studies_and_plans\r\n\r\nCareel Creek\r\nAvalon to Palm Beach Flood Risk Management Study and Plan -
